Cute Things Kids Say
  • Patience Lori:  Do you know what ‘be patient’ means? Bailee: ‘Be quiet and don’t ask any more questions.’ — Lori, AZ, Bailee age 5
  • Thankfulness While caring for four of our seven grandchildren last weekend, we got up early, ate Mickey Mouse waffles (both with and without chocolate chips), and paraded off to church. At the 10:15 mass, our church offers a children’s liturgy of the Bible readings – delivered in kid-friendly language. When the lovely mother-faciliator asked what the children would like to be thankful for, my four-year-old granddaughter, Maya, said,”I would like to give thanks for Santa.” I think we all agree! — Trish D., AZ, Maya age 4
  • Like Mother, Like Son One day my mother came to my house to bring me a picture that she had found of me when I was 5 years old. My son, Brandon, said to my mother, “Grammie who is that”?  She said, “This is your mom when she was a little girl.”  Brandon proceeded to say, “Well Momma, you look just like me!” My mother and I looked at each and laughed! Instead of Brandon saying, “Momma, I look like you,” he really knew that I looked just like him. — Donna L., CA, Brandon age 5
  • What are you? I babysit my cousin Skylar weekly.  Sometimes, this includes excursions to the store. While pushing her through the baby isles at Target, I ask her, “Are you a baby?” to which she quickly responded enthusiastically, “NOOOOOO!”  So then I ask her, “Are you a big girl?”  She frowns at me and follows with a “NOOOOOO!” Confused, I look at her and ask, “Well then, what are you?” In a very matter-of-fact tone, she goes “I Skyurrrr!” Well, excuse me, miss two-year-old! — Alli, IL, Skylar age 2
  • Baby Peas My daughter Katie wasn’t crazy about vegetables so one night I tried something different. “Look,” I said as I spooned some miniature peas onto her plate, “Try these baby peas.”   Katie looked at the peas and then back at me and said,  ”I’d rather have mommy and daddy peas.” — Diane O., AZ, Katie age 4
  • A Little TLC In our house, we throw around acronyms like real words. “Hey kids, set the table ASAP. And, FYI, the fork goes on the left.” I never gave it a second thought and assumed they always knew what I was saying. One afternoon, Katie, Matt and I were sitting around admiring our adorable new puppy, Zucca. We were making a list of all the things we would do to take care of him and help him know that he was loved. I ended our discussion by saying, “We are going to just shower this little guy with TLC!” “Yeah!” Matt exclaimed with such enthusiasm that Katie looked at him sideways. “You don’t even know what TLC means do you?” she asked him. “Do too,” he said. “Well, what does it mean?” she demanded. “I know what it means, Katie, I’m not stupid.” He stood up. “Then say it.” He picked up the puppy, turned on his heal and yelled “Total Love Control!” as he left the room. — Susan, AZ, Matt age 11, Katie age 15
  • Best Day Ever Jaden in all of his excitement exclaimed “This is the best day ever!” now, every day for Jaden is the best day ever. However on this day I asked him “why is this the best day ever?” and he responded “Because I said so!” — Jen W., AZ, Jaden age 3
  • Not a Jock It was time to sign the boys up for sports. I knew John’s idea of fun was playing Scrabble, not catching fly balls, but I was encouraging them to sign up for something. I asked what he would be interested in playing, soccer, football or t-ball. He looks at me with excitement and asked “Can you sign me up for pinball?” — Jen W., AZ, John age 5
